What does the word "loft" make you think of?

The first things that come to mind are: an industrial site, a disused site, an empty space that can be fitted out. 

What affinities do you have with the word "loft"?

If I had the opportunity to have a disused site to renovate, I would think it a shame to turn it into a home. I would find the right balance to turn this blank floor space, open to every possibility, into a lively space bustling with life all day long.
